OMT One Man's Trash...from Norman Leahy

Um, Yeah...

I'm not entirely sure whether that was a campaign ad for George Allen I just watched, or an ad for a personal injury law firm.

Matching blue shirts. matching blue ties. Sure, I get it...John and George are like two peas in a pod, different sides of the same coin, that sort of thing.

The real suspense came when it seemed as though George wasn't going to say anything. Will he speak? Is he standing in for Susan? He can scowl? Who knew?

Then the tension broke and Robert Vaughn appeared telling us to tell the insurance companies we mean business. I think. The signal wavered for a second there and the message got muddled.

Sort of a metaphor for the entire campaign, actually.

"You know what the fellow said: In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they also produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love -- they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock." -- Orson Welles, The Third Man

"The graveyards are full of indespensable men" -- Charles de Gaulle

"Oh, so Mother Nature needs a favor? Well maybe she should have thought of that when she was besetting us with droughts and floods and poison monkeys. Nature started the fight for survival and now she wants to quit because she's losing. Well I say, hard cheese!" -- Montgomery Burns
