We Are All Racists Now

While it cannot be denied (at least by me), that George Allen put his boot firmly in his mouth with his "macaca" comment, I do wonder if those on and off the Webb payroll who have made so much of this blunder have anything to say about this other, Democratic, blunder?

A video Monday on the Web site of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee showed footage of Osama bin Laden, referred to an increase in terror attacks, highlighted illegal immigration and pointed out the nuclear aspirations of Iran and North Korea.
“Feel safer?” it concludes. “Vote for change.”

Good powerful images...which generated responses like this:

Houston City Councilwoman Carol Alvarado, a Democrat, sent a letter to DSCC Chairman Sen. Charles Schumer of New York asking that the ad be pulled. She said it could alienate Latino voters.

"To liken Latino immigrants to bazooka-toting terrorists not only undermines the positive relationship our party has with this community, but also lowers us to a despicable level as breeders of unfounded fear and hatred," Alvarado wrote.

And this:

"This is the same kind of fear mongering we condemn in the extreme media and now we are seeing it at the DSCC," said Lisa Navarrete, spokeswoman for the National Council of La Raza. "It's appalling."

Appalling or not (it's hard to say because the DSCC has taken down the spot from YouTube, and without an apology, it seems), Jim Webb may feel a little bit better about not getting financial support from the DSCC today.

Boy howdy, the dog whistles just keep on coming.

"You know what the fellow said: In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they also produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love -- they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock." -- Orson Welles, The Third Man
