Money

Looks like Jim Webb may get some national Democratic financial support after all. The question is, will it help?

Independent analysts were divided on the impact of the Schumer announcement.

Jennifer Duffy of the Cook Political Report said the pledge "puts the Webb campaign in a better position than they were a month ago. For Allen, "this is a wake-up call -- money that wasn't going to be there, is going to be there," she said.

Quentin Kidd, a political scientist at Christopher Newport University in Newport News, said a cash fix from the senatorial committee may be too late for Webb.

"I'm not sure he can raise enough money at this point to keep himself competitive," said Kidd, adding that if Webb loses narrowly, Democratic leaders in Washington can take some of the blame for not helping sooner.

I'm sure Webb will not turn down any sort of support - no matter how late in the game -- from almost any source. It's an open question as to whether it will be enough to allow his campaign to mount a sustained ad war.

However, it seems Webb now has the opportunity to use radio and mail. And that ain't beanbag.
