Lose a Blog, Gain a Better Website

The NV Daily's experiment in blogging appears to be over (for now). As explained in the post, the paper has decided to end its "experiment" with a blog and instead, will offer more complete access to stories at its main website.

I'm not sure what to think of the move, but I can understand the business case underlying the paper's decision. One thing the blog was able to do -- and very effectively -- was to showcase the reporting skills of Garren Shipley. That he has not yet been scooped-up by a larger paper is puzzling (though perhaps if he were to sprinkle his prose with a few American Idol references, the TD would hire him in a second). His posts will be missed. But his reporting will continue.

Excellent.

"You know what the fellow said: In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they also produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love -- they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock." -- Orson Welles, The Third Man

"The graveyards are full of indespensable men" -- Charles de Gaulle

"Oh, so Mother Nature needs a favor? Well maybe she should have thought of that when she was besetting us with droughts and floods and poison monkeys. Nature started the fight for survival and now she wants to quit because she's losing. Well I say, hard cheese!" -- Montgomery Burns
