Nancy Pelosi on Earmarks

I agree with David Hogberg, that if Nancy Pelosi's remarks in the Wall Street Journal regarding budgetary earmarks are in earnest, then more power to her.

And yes, if she really does intend to cast a skeptical eye at special spending requests under her (possible) Speakership, it would be a welcome thing indeed -- not just because it's the right thing to do, but also because it may, as Hogberg suggests, force the GOP to take the same line between now and election day.

Of course, whether they would stick to such a promise, if it is made, is an entirely different matter. However, given the amount of heat and light cast on earmarks recently, there is no earthly reason why congressional Republicans shouldn't embrace the idea with both arms.

But that assumes they are actual resides of this planet. Which is sometimes debatable.
