This is the New Republican Agenda?

Via the Hotline comes word of the House GOP's "American Values Agenda," a collection of bills that, on the surface, look as pinched, timid and narrow as the proposed Democratic agenda. But below the surface, it's even worse.

Rather than address their insatiable and even corrupt abuse of the treasury, or even making a slight attempt to revisit the Contract with America, the House instead will focus on symbolism, personal private behavior, and that greatest threat of all to the Republic, Internet gambling.

And all this time I thought the greatest evil out there today was the crushing lack of stylish child safety seats. Maybe they can address that in their next "Values Agenda."

"You know what the fellow said: In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they also produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love -- they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock." -- Orson Welles, The Third Man

"The graveyards are full of indespensable men" -- Charles de Gaulle

"Oh, so Mother Nature needs a favor? Well maybe she should have thought of that when she was besetting us with droughts and floods and poison monkeys. Nature started the fight for survival and now she wants to quit because she's losing. Well I say, hard cheese!" -- Montgomery Burns
