Blog Meetings, Blog Conferences

There's been a lot of chatter about the 2nd blog "summit" in June, and a possible blog conference in Henry County.

But then J.R. at Bearing Drift mentions an idea that's really a lot more up my alley..."Maybe Hampton Roads Bloggers can get together this year for a half-shell at Rockefellers on Rudee Inlet anyway."

That's just the sort of thing being organized right now for Richmond area bloggers by Ross and the good folks behind RVA Blogs, who are hosting an event on May 20th at Gallery5. What's the purpose for this meeting? It's purely social:

A time to get together and finally meet other Richmond area bloggers face to face. I imagine we will chat and drink beer, but there is no planned agenda.

Even though I won't be able to attend (because the Leahys are going to swinging London), this is the kind of blog meeting/conference/summit that actually sounds like it could be fun, informative and useful.

"You know what the fellow said: In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they also produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love -- they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock." -- Orson Welles, The Third Man

"Oh, so Mother Nature needs a favor? Well maybe she should have thought of that when she was besetting us with droughts and floods and poison monkeys. Nature started the fight for survival and now she wants to quit because she's losing. Well I say, hard cheese!" -- Montgomery Burns
