Another Unmet Need

Jeff Schapiro converts one of his blog postings into a column devoted to the crushing need for the legislature to renovate its office space.

Of course it's not all about bricks and mortar (or elevators and asbestos). This is an issue that further exposes the House/Senate divide, populists versus realists, the serious and the unserious. Oh, and the 2007 celebration. We must impress the Queen at all costs.

Whatever.

I just have to wonder if a new GAB will be built with school books and hospital beds. Every dollar spent on concrete planters means the SOQ's suffer! What about the bond rating!? Won't someone please think of the children?

"You know what the fellow said: In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they also produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love -- they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock." -- Orson Welles, The Third Man

"Oh, so Mother Nature needs a favor? Well maybe she should have thought of that when she was besetting us with droughts and floods and poison monkeys. Nature started the fight for survival and now she wants to quit because she's losing. Well I say, hard cheese!" -- Montgomery Burns
