Oh My Stars and Garters

I saw the email Shaun refers to in this post, where Ken Hutcheson takes great, galloping swings at Phil Rodokanakis and the Virginia Club for Growth.

It is somewhat regrettable to see stuff like this out in public. But it also has a certain clarifying power to it.

Just a couple of things to keep in mind, though: the VCG is a hollow shell. There is no "there" there anymore. In the last election it did manage to serve as a useful tool of the Kaine campaign. But otherwise, it was a cipher.

That said, it's rather stunning to see Ken Hutcheson lash out at the anti-tax ranks so violently. Like them or not, Ken, the Kilgore campaign went out of its way to ignore not just the VCG but others on the anti-tax side as well. That may not have been the best tactical move, but it's also water under the bridge (and before Ken climbs up my ass for being a blogger with an opinion, I've been involved in plenty of campaigns...and we won...a lot).

Now let's shake hands and get busy preparing for the battles ahead.

"You know what the fellow said: In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they also produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love -- they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock." -- Orson Welles, The Third Man

"Oh, so Mother Nature needs a favor? Well maybe she should have thought of that when she was besetting us with droughts and floods and poison monkeys. Nature started the fight for survival and now she wants to quit because she's losing. Well I say, hard cheese!" -- Montgomery Burns
