Trash in the Library of Virginia

For reasons I cannot fathom, the Library of Virginia wants to preserve portions of this blog (and others of far greater value, no doubt) in its collections:

The Library of Virginia has selected your Web site for inclusion in its historic collection of Internet materials related to Virginia's 2005 state-wide elections for Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General.

This is the last thing I expected to see in the inbox. But good for them. If the day comes, sometime long into the future, and a desperate doctoral candidate comes across this blog and wonders what in the name of God I hoped to make a small difference in this contest. And to recruit soldiers for my army of the night. But mostly for the chance to say I knew Chad Dotson before he was Governor.

"You know what the fellow said: In Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they also produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love -- they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock." -- Orson Welles, The Third Man

"The graveyards are full of indespensable men" -- Charles de Gaulle

"Oh, so Mother Nature needs a favor? Well maybe she should have thought of that when she was besetting us with droughts and floods and poison monkeys. Nature started the fight for survival and now she wants to quit because she's losing. Well I say, hard cheese!" -- Montgomery Burns
