The Coburn Amendment Soundly Defeated

Via Andrew comes the news that the Coburn amendment to defund the "Bridge to Nowhere" was crushed, 82-15. Those voting for the amendment:

Tom Coburn (R-OK)
Russ Feingold (D-WI)
Jon Kyl (R-AZ)
Jim DeMint (R-SC)
David Vitter (R-LA)
Mary Landrieu (D-LA)
John Sununu (R-NH)
Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
Richard Burr (R-NC)
Wayne Allard (R-CO)
Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
Evan Bayh (D-IN)
Mike DeWine (R-OH)
Kent Conrad (D-ND)
George Allen (R-VA)

Once again, George Allen makes the right call. Meanwhile, John Warner is off herding cats in the cloakroom.

Interesting to see that among those voting for the amendment are some prominent early presidential contenders. Allen and McCain among Republicans (put a fork in Brownback...he's toast. Frist did himself no favors, either). And for Democrats, Feingold and Bayh make the list. Interesting.

The Senate GOP has shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that it has lost whatever claim it may have had to fiscal sanity, or fiscal priorities. Pork uber alles, it seems.

Time for them to go.
